American Choice Reader complaint
I recieved a phone call one evening stating I was eligible for a $1,000.00 free shopping spree and gas card. Ordinarily I would hang up. But I have MS and I was in the middle of what you might call a relapse period. I'll admit my mind does not function properly at these moments and the caller could sense this and was very persistant. I agreed to to the purchase of Time magazine at a certain monthly fee. Was told I had 2 days to cancel. Like an idiot I even gave them my credit card #. When I hung up I fell straight asleep and all was forgotten. The following month I noticed 2 charges of almost $50.00 apiece to my account and one almost $2.00. I immediatly called my credit card co. to find out about the charges. They gave me a phone no. to call. Which I did and found out of America's Choice Readers. They kept on for me to listen to the recording but I wouldn't for I knew it had been changed and they were nothing but SCAM or scum artist. The best I could remember the monthly charge was not suppose to be even half that and definitely not for no five years. And I surely didn't order Goodhouse Keeping nor Redbook among others. They were definitely very rude and tried their best to be intimidating. I hung up and cancelled my credit card and they tried their best for me to turn the charges over to their Dispute and Fraud Dept. and get reimbursed. I figured they had gotten what they had for my stupidity but that would be it nor more of their RIPOFFS. I continued to get bills and numerous phone calls even after I informed them that I am Exercising my Right under The Fair Debt Collection Act and request that all contact be made via mail and NO more phone calls and remove my no. from their listing.I get bills showing overdue payments plus interest owed. I suppose I will soon have to find a lawyer and see if I might get enough plaintiffs for a class action lawsuit. anyone interested or having knowledge of how to go about this or help in resolving this please contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

I'm currently trying to fight back for control of my bank account too. I already canceled my bank card and tried calling to close my account with them. They never mentioned anything about the overall charges involved in the first call and they so happened to have not recorded that one. I'm concerned my refusal to pay may have some negative consequences in the future. Has anyone else been hit besides annoying calls from not paying?

Had the same bad experience with America's Choice Readers Service. They even passed my credit card information on to two other companies; Healthcare Savings Club and Discount Savings Club who automatically charged my credit card for $1 for a 30 trial membership. I suspect they will try to charge me for whatever the full amount of their membership is after the 30 day period. I tried to cancel but they refused. I told them I canceled my credit card. There's no way I will pay these RIPOFF artists.

I can't believe that no one has started a class action lawsuit against these people.

I did the same thing. I thought it would be a good deal. I received the magazines that I wanted but when I tried to change the magazines the would never do it, I called andtried to cancel my subcriptions, they said I couldn't ever! So I had my bank stop payment to them. They have sent me numerous overdue payment bills and thousdands of phone calls. Just yesterday I received a letter from some supposed attorney saying that my deliquent account had been referred to him. I will not pay this rip off company. I will help you get these jerks.

Like you I did the same thing. I thought it sounded to good to be true and of course it was. I would definately be willing to help in a class action lawsuit. When I tried to cancel they informed me that I owed them $720 something dollars. That I had agreed to this in the first phone call. This is untrue. They never said anything like this at all. I have yet to get the magazines that I had requested. Now I am getting calls from debt collectors threating to sue me over this ripoff. So yes I would definately want to nail these *** offs.
